Train 4 Trade Skills

Keeping on Target

If you are returning to study after a break you may find getting back into the routine of studying a little difficult. There are several important points that you need to think about:

1. Never lose sight of your goal.

3. Think about when you are going to study. You may find it useful to draw up a study timetable.

4. You should choose the right conditions for learning. Try to set aside a particular place where you keep your books and materials. One of the great advantages of your course is that you can carry out your work anywhere, but you should try to make a particular central point where you keep all your materials.

5. It is important that you read and digest each part of the information. As you read it is important that you ask yourself 'do I understand?' As you progress through each Lesson you must understand what you have read, and not just read. You may find it helpful to make notes (keep all your notes for revision purposes). Some students find it useful to highlight particular areas of a Lesson, and then go back and revise only the highlighted points. Another useful method of retaining information is to write points that you feel you may have difficulty remembering on postcards, and then place the postcards in prominent areas in your house or workplace.

6. There may be areas where you need time to think it over before continuing. It is important that you allow yourself this time if needed.

7. Build in time for review. Before attempting each Tutor Marked Assignment you should go back over the Lesson/s you have studied and carry out revision.

8. Read each Tutor Marked Assignment very carefully. Take note of the points that are made. The Reports are a very effective method of feedback.

9. Admit to frustration when you are having a particular problem understanding an area, and contact your tutor team.

10. Allow yourself rewards when you reach specific points, and also deny yourself until you arrive at these points.
